Artist's Comments

Fail title is FAIL. However, it tells what I was going for... a girl with two very unusual styles that are radically different from each-other: Sweet Lolita and J-Goth.

This was my first attempt at super-sweet, "Angelic Pretty"-caliber lolita. I rather liked how it turned out. The "Gothic Bride" style is pretty "meh" in my opinion, but that up for you guys to say. On that note, Please leave ADVANCED CRITIQUE, as I'm really trying to improve my design skills. ^^;

BTW, to any lolis who see this, please don't yell at me about the short socks/long sleeves combo... I thought it worked well for the look, so... Please let me know if you have any better coordination suggestions. ^^

P.S. apologies for the big ugly watermark, but I figured better safe that sorry. ^^;

A-are those... sandals? D:

...If you're going for a Grecian/desert/deconstruct j-goth than you could probably incorporate it into a coordinate, but as they are now it looks like he/she yanked some shoes out of her mom's closet.

Augh, yes they are... Dx I think I was going for "tattered prom", but I guess the shoes could have used some heel. I think I merely got lazy. ^^; What would you suggest?

Thank you for the critique... I really appreciate it, even when my commenters *don't* like something! xD

Well, it looks more like mallgoth who got caught in a thorn bush right now XD; The shoulder bag doesn't work at all, either. I think maybe a more hand-held purse with a unique shape (not just a coffin) might look a lot better. I don't like the corset, not with a shirt like that.

The top half looks like tattered aristo, and the bottom half looks like punk. The bottom half down, with the sandals, I actually sort of like. It looks kind of silly and totally informal, in a punky sort of way. I think if the top was a deconstruct singlet or even a belly shirt it would look really funky.

Also, I think the lolita looks more like a lolita who likes hairclips than decololi. Needs moar clips XD and maybe some shoe clips, rings, face jewels, crazy socks, or patterned socks. Have you ever seen Ochalua (I have no idea how to spell her username) on the Livejournal EGL community? She does REALLY good decololi. I'd take some pointers from her 8D

LOL! I agree on all fronts! I really sort of threw this gothic design together... I'm really not as familiar with J-goth as I am with lolita, and it shows. ^^; I was sort of going for the Black Peace Now/Atelier Boz (j-goth brands) aesthetic... the words "tattered victoriana" were in my mind as I drew this. I think I'll try this again with the same blouse (minus the silly corset Dx) with something a little more original, like a bustle- or hoop skirt with semi-exposed underpinnings (like tulle, hoops, etc.).

xD Regarding deco-loli-chan... well, I didn't want to go "ZOMGZ COLOR EXTRAVAGANZA!!1ONE!!" on this first attempt. I am alternately wow'ed and horrified at deco-lolita attempts (*especially* from the GLBs and anime conventions), so I guess I'll have to look up this Ochalua person. :D

Again, thanks so much for the insightful critique! :D BTW, I'm kagitsune on LJ and almost everywhere else... maybe see you around the internet? :D

Ah, yes, I think that might work better. 8D If you wanna do deconstruct, I'd recommend looking at Elements and if you wanna go punky/messy, then SEXPOT ReVeNGe. And yes, I know BPN and AB, I own a lot of stuff from them XD;

/punk kodona

Ahh, okay. It's a cute outfit, though! Not necessarily decololi, imo, though. Did you see AP's deco loli section in I think either the last GLB or like two-three GLBs ago? Soooo cute. And ugh, anime cons for lolita is like chinese restaraunt for french food. I mean, there are some cute lolitas sprinkled in there, but it's mostly failtastic.

Ahh, I'm not good with usernames XD; you can add me on LJ if you want ~ I'm Purinyappykura on there.

Tee-hee, added you on LJ. :giggle:

I had a really hard time with sexpot revenge for a long time.... until TERU from Versailles did a photoshoot with their clothes. 8D <3 I've been on a goth/punk kick since I met my friend Ashley in late summer... she has a bunch of h.Naoto and BPN in her closet, along with this EPIC asymmetrical AB skirt. ;w;

I definitely agree with you on the con-loli fail/win... it seems like a lot of first-time lolis AND seasoned loli-veterans go to these things. ^^; (I've sorta been both, so I know what it's like!) I saw the AP deco-loli section in the winter 2008/9 English GLB and was, again, simultaneously in awe and sort of "O_o;;" at that feature. I will say, however, that the "Picnic" photoshoot (with the western model) in that same issue was really inspiring. I know a lot of people thought that was a weird/OTT shoot, but I personally loved how well they made her ultra-deco-sweet without looking like a clown. :D
