I woke to Texas Snow
I woke
to a winter wonderland today.
Tea and sandwich in my belly,
BT in my ears,
and umbrella in hand,
I ventured out
into a powder-sugaréd
Texan suburban heaven.
The trees hung low,
heavy with snow and happy children.
The trees hung high,
basking in crystal singularity,
outlined in puffy white ball-gowns,
binary symmetry revealed.
Arms outstretched,
worshipping the Father above,
roots dreaming below,
cooled and clinging to their now-silent Mother.
And shading their smaller
Brothers and Sisters from the still-falling ice
-little sisters like me
with my umbrella in hand
and footsteps behind.
